From the Family's Account

Family testimony is historically valuable. It is presented here as attributed testimony, clearly separated from independently documented fact — not automatically converted into documented fact simply because it is detailed, plausible, or comes from a source close to the family.

The account describes a ₹40,000 surety, a mortgage of roughly 50 acres of land raised to supply ₹75,000 toward the SGPC's Privy Council appeal, and a later decision to decline the SGPC's offer of reimbursement. Family tradition further holds that the declined sum was redirected into a corpus supporting higher studies for Sikh students. None of this is independently documented at this time.

A land mortgage of this kind would ordinarily generate a registered deed; a Privy Council appeal generates a case file. Both are potentially locatable. If found, this account would move from family testimony to documented fact — see Open Research Questions.

Why this page exists, separately

Folding testimony like this into the main narrative pages would blur the line this archive is built to keep visible. Keeping it here, clearly labelled, is judged the stronger — not the weaker — editorial choice.
